Tom Waits - Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis

Someone from EARPHORIA posted this song/video a few days back, and I loaded it on a separate tab. I had been listening to the song in the background while surfing through the net, so I wasn't paying much attention to it. I stopped the track halfway, because my roommate wanted to talk to me, afterwards I just started to listen to a different song I also loaded.

Due to the storm that came the next day, we had no internet connection in the dorm.  And although it limited the things I could do, It also made me focus on what I could do. My preloaded tabs are still intact, and so in a bid to close unnecessary tabs, I listened to this track again from the top.

First off, I now notice Tom Waits voice, what I can only compare to Neil Armstrong, I'm not always the biggest fan of smokey raspy voices, but when they work, it's magic.

Then I realized the uploader also posted the lyrics to song. And it is frickin' heartbreaking. It's a good thing I'm not listening to this on Christmas or I'll just become a depressed party pooper.

This song did not actually cause LSS, but rather I kept thinking about the song all night. I'm a sucker for songs that are virtually like short stories.

Maria Gadú - Baba

"Baba"

Maria Gadú (Cover, Originally by Kelly Key)
Composed by Kelly Key, Andinho
Self-titled  (2009)
http://www.mariagadu.com.br/

I don't know much about Maria Gadu. From observations, well she's pretty boyish, androgynous. At first I want to presume that she's lesbian, but from all the videos I've seen of her in Youtube, I think she has the biggest crush on Leandro Leo. Well, who doesn't have a crush on Leandro Leo? The way he fingers his guitar is nothing short of SMEXY. You add his voice to the equation, SMEXIER.

But for this post, it's all about Maria. (Will definitely have time for Leandro in future posts!)

I was actually looking through more Sandy and Junior videos. I was feeling pretty nostalgic, Quando Voce Passa has been always stuck in my head since 2006. So today, I got on youtube again, looking for my good acoustic versions of the song, and then there I found Maria. She's pretty darn good, and to tell you the truth I prefer her tone of voice than Sandy's Disney-ish pitch.

guitar chords here! :D

UPDATE [2.10.2012]

Had I not tried to edit this post to add the song details, I would've never found out that this was actually a cover of another Brazilian artist. I'm sorry Kelly Key, I don't know you well, but I'm passing judgement. That original "Baba" video is maybe one of the sluttiest things I've ever seen or heard! Thank God for Maria Gadu! If not for this cover, I would've never cared for this song!

No, I won't be posting a link to the original song. You can try and search for it yourself. Although I really hope you won't, I'm trying to save you from wasting your time.

Florence Welch - I Don't Wanna Know

I was searching "I Don't Want To Know" on Youtube, in hopes that it'll match to a video of a song by Fleetwood Mac. I did find want I want, but another link lead me to this excellent cover by Florence Welch of Florence + the Machines.

This RnB song suddenly got so much more soul and feeling! Florence, you can do no wrong.
